Monthly Meeting – Apr 7, 2016: “Old Maps and Today’s Technology”, by Bill Hannah

Have you ever wanted to know how you can “see” where your ancestors lived on old maps? And then see how they overlay onto Google Earth? Bill will walk you through several sources and tips for obtaining old maps, and show you how to create your own personal map overlays onto Google Earth from any scaled map image. By using a transparency feature, you’ll be able to slide in and out of the image over today’s real terrain.

Bill Hannah, a retired Army officer and defense contractor, is originally from South Carolina. He became the family repository of hand-written family trees, info and artifacts. All this has lead him into the world of genealogy, which became a major endeavor after retiring. He has attended “Rootstech” a genealogical conference in Salt Lake City in February. He serves on the board of Monterey County Genealogy Society, is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and a past speaker for MoCoGenSo.

Doors open at 6:15 pm, the meeting starts at 7:00 pm. We’ll see you at the Family History Center, 1024 Noche Buena, Seaside, CA., left rear of building.
