Fall 2015 Genealogy Seminar in Santa Cruz on Oct 17

The Genealogical Society of Santa Cruz County will host the fall 2015 board meeting of the California State Genealogical Alliance on Saturday, October 17. Everyone is invited to attend the open board meeting of CSGA.

In addition to the board meeting, there will be a free seminar that will feature three popular speakers and offer a full day of presentations for anyone with an interest in family history.

Wendy Elliott, “Finding Wives’ & Daughters’ Names.” This talk addresses record sources which contain both women’s given and maiden names. The presentation includes a review of land, court, tax, church, newspaper, and a multitude of other resources that can be used to find wives’ and daughters’ names. Wendy retired as a professor of history at California State University at Fullerton and is the Immediate Past President of the Federation of Genealogical Societies.

Mary Ann Vincent, “Mapping 0ur Ancestors: They Went Where? Why?” Most of us spend a lot of time collecting information about our ancestors and relatives. How much time do we spend determining how they got the land where they lived? Did they inherit the land, buy it, or receive land grants? Mary Anne serves on the Board of Directors for CSGA and has been a member of the Delaware Genealogical Society for more than two decades.

Janice M. Sellers, “Read All About It!: Using Online Newspapers for Genealogical Research. “ Newspapers are valuable in genealogical research because you can find information about births, marriages, deaths, moves, businesses, naturalizations, court cases, and more! Janice serves on the CSGA Board of Directors and is the vice president of the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Genealogical Society. She specializes in Jewish, black, forensic, and newspaper research.
